Effective July 6th, Marines and Sailors assigned at Pentagon and National Capital Region (NCR) must wear Service Uniforms.

According to Military.com, the Marine Corps and Navy have tightened the dress code for troops in a bid to opt for a more professional attire as opposed to their comfortable camouflage utilities.

They are to don their Service Uniforms, at least when they are in the Pentagon and certain other locations in and around Washington, D.C

Post the attacks on September 11, 2001, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers posted at the Pentagon were required to wear Camouflage.

The Navy, on the other hand, kept their Sailors in Service Uniform. In 2019, its uniform regulations were altered and the NWU III (Navy Work Uniform) became the uniform of the day.

The changes in the uniform policy at Pentagon was altered multiple times in a bid to strike the right balance between tactical comfort and professionalism.

However, according to the administrative messages released by the Navy this month, the Marines and Sailors are specifically prohibited from wearing flight suits and their standard utility uniforms (NWU III), while they are in the Pentagon, National Mall area, around Capitol Hill, the White House, the State Department Building, and the national monuments.

The standard uniform of the day for sailors in the National Capital Region will now be Service Khaki for officers and Cheif Petty officers, and Navy Service Uniforms for recruited sailors in ranks E-1 to E-6.

The uniform of the day for marines stationed within the Pentagon is the seasonal Service ‘B’ or ‘C’, a uniform with olive-green trousers or skirts and long or short-sleeved khaki shirts.

The NWU III uniform will now be the alternate uniform of the day for DoD (Department of Defense) installations, commands, and facilities in the NCR other than the above-mentioned areas when permitted by the commanding officer or officer-in-charge.

The message also states that the sailors who are stationed at the National Military Command Center, Navy Operations Center, DiLorenzo Tricare Health Clinic within the Pentagon are allowed to wear Camouflage utilities and flight suits.

The Navy-Marine Corps uniforms are aligned in the NCR and Pentagon regions to demonstrate a unified and professional image of an integrated Naval Force. The decision was made by Naval District Washington in coordination with the Navy and Marine Corps leaders.
