5.11, Inc., a global innovator of purpose-built apparel, footwear, and gear, and 3M partner over a new carbon black uniform application.

They are the first in public safety to offer 3M Scotchlite Carbon Black embellishment.

This reflective film with a high level of durability as well as flexibility is patented and available through the 5.11 custom shop in Manteca, CA.

With the provider’s safety in mind, the product was made with off-angle brightness in low-light situations and exudes a muted appearance in daylight.

Unlike other products, the 3M Scotchlite Carbon Black will not lose its dark coloration and reflective properties while yielding a peak performance throughout its product life.

“While not replacing the ANSI Level 2 Reflective Vest, Carbon Black is an all-the-time option to aid in better viability during low-light situations and has a clean look to maintain a traditional appearance that our users expect,” said Matt Page, 5.11’s vice president of global product.

Additional recommendations to this include piping around sleeves and stripes down pants and pocket to allow more points of viability.

“We have had great initial feedback from early field testing with select agencies,” says Brian Tripp, 5.11’s vice president, Guardian Sales Division. “Improvements in uniforms to elevate safety is paramount, and 5.11 strives to drive this effort.”

5.11 has offices across the globe and works directly with the end-users to build uniforms, gear, and footwear to specifically enhance the safety, performance, and accuracy of tactical professionals.
