The Swiss Army is all set to launch its women’s uniforms that are specifically designed and tailored for their bodies.

Women account for 0.9% of the Army, however, they currently don a unisex uniform which is not adapted to the needs of a women.

“The focus will be on fit and functionality,” armasuisse spokesman Kaj-Gunnar Sievert told news agency Keystone-SDA on Sunday, confirming a report in the magazine Femina.

The planned launch of new uniforms for women also includes men’s supplies, which is in the final stage of testing and procurement.

Sievert said, that around 350 military personnel have participated in the initial tests.

The new sizing and cuts apply to combat gear, backpacks, bulletproof vests and hydration systems. They will be introduced next year, and it was also mentioned that the off-duty uniform will also be updated. The current ones date back to the old mid-1980s.

The latest development in introducing Swiss Army uniforms for women is also part of the larger plan to increase the number of women serving in the Swiss Armed Forces, Defence Minister Viola Amherd said. She says that the compatibility of military service, training, career and family must be improved.
