Evanston, IL – October 28, 2020 – The Human Systems Division of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is in the final stages of testing and inspecting the new body armor, which the security forces units across the Air Force will receive.
These armors are specifically designed for female airmen in security forces. These are also an improvement from the current vests worn by females in security forces.
The new body armor is lightweight and a better fit as it provides improved mobility and better protection to vital organs.
Compared to the other model, the newer body armor conforms to the body and does not move, making it easier and quicker to perform daily functions with less complications.
The 23rd Security Forces Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, GA, will be the first to receive the new body armor.
“Every day Airmen across the Air Force Materiel Command are delivering war-winning capabilities to our warfighters,” said Gen. Arnold W. Bunch Jr., AFMC commander. “We can win on the battlefield because we provide tailored gear that protects all our Airmen and allows them to more effectively complete their mission. I’m proud of the AFLCMC team for their hard work and for making this happen.”
Considering the requirements from the Air Force Security Forces Center in San Antonio, Texas, the Human Systems Division initially evaluated and tested as many as eight different body armor designs.
“We’ve received the initial sets of these systems, and we are now getting ready to send them off to their secondary sites [installations around the world],” said Maj. Saily Rodriguez a fitment program manager. “We’ve given them a thumbs up and are working to deliver them to our female Defenders in Security Forces.”
This contract is awarded to TSSI of Harrisonburg, Virginia to produce the Aspetto ‘Mach V’ systems.
An approximate 7000 Aspetto system is produced and will be delivered to active duty, reserve units, and guards before July 2021.
