“The Image of the Year Awards competition is in its 27th year, and this long-standing program is a testament to all winning companies that make career apparel a part of their business programs, says Bernard J. Lepper, Executive Director of the NAUMD. The Career Apparel Institute (CAI), a division of the NAUMD, sponsors the awards program. A panel of garment and fashion experts independent of the NAUMD and the CAI judge the entries based on the following criteria: image projection, neatness, practicality, use of a color scheme, originality, brand recognition and coordination of garments with accessories. This year there are 13 Image of the Year winners and six Outstanding Achievement recipients.

Career apparel is engineered to complement the work environment and the image the company wishes to present. The uniforms are designed with stylish accents and complementary colors which blend fashion and function, says Ilene Rosen, CAI Chairperson. Companies work with their employees to ensure that proper attention to special details is incorporated into their uniform programs. All of this is made possible with career apparel that is supplied by uniform industry professionals.

NAUMD is proud to present the 2005 Image of the Year winners.

Winner
The Mission Inn
Uniform Supplier:
Sally Fourmy & Associates

The inspiration for The Mission program comes from the colorful history of the Californian mission trail. The Mission Inn is a maze of courtyards, terraces, balconies, patios, chapels, gardens and half-hidden steps. The apparel of the staff at the Riverside Mission Inn is a blend of Edwardian era patrons and an Old World charm of the missions thanks to Sally Fourmy & Assoc. a division of Cintas Corp.

The female front office/concierge jacket is fashioned in a tapestry fabric that echos the cloister stained glass windows. The style has a retro Oleg Cassini feel with a sight swing to the shape and a feminine inverted box peat in the center back. The colors are soft taupe, teals and light gold. The princess lines on the jacket end with open vents and are topped with faux pocket flaps. The three quarter cuffed sleeves are buttoned and are a clear reflection back to Edwardian wear, yet the V-necked wide collar neckline matches the retro Cassini look. The tailored suit look is finished off with an Aztec Blue lined, light wool skirt. The male suit is a classic three-button in a rich Aztec blue shade worn with an open-neck shirt for relaxed elegance.

The extensive use of decorative motifs in the tiling, masonry carvings and cloister stained glass windows is echoed in the embroidery of the spa receptionist two-piece dress. It also draws deeply from the lush gardens, featured throughout the Mission Inn and seen in the majestic floral embroidery motif on the dress top. The cool adobe surroundings are stated in the calming colors of warm ivory for the overall dress. The top is cut in at the waist with cap sleeves and a front plaque of buttons flanked by a long row of embroidered flowers. The eight paneled gored skirt also is reminiscent of the Edwardian era, yet the inverted knee-length pleat skirt is a bit breezier then that dress of eras now gone.
