TOOLBOX: NEW PRODUCT LINES

Doubletex Extends
Its Uniform Fabric Lines

Doubletex introduced two new textile solutions that stretch to meet the performance and comfort demands of the uniform industry. Presented as part of its Truflex family of fabrics, the products are designed with a twist on the fibers that creates a stretch without any “sagging or bagging.”

“Stretch is what most of our customers are looking for now,” says Stuart Zuckerman, President of Doubletex. “It’s in demand in all segments of the market today, especially the uniform market.”

Soft and drapable, the low-pill 65 percent polyester/35 percent wool fabric lines are easy-care. Harris, a sturdy twill with 18 percent stretch, is appropriate for tailored uniform pants and jackets. Shetland, a high performance poplin with 17 percent stretch, is fabricated for uniform shirts, skirts and tunics.

Cordoba, a 70 percent polyester/30 percent cotton herringbone twill provides 15-18 percent stretch. Cordoba works in everything from sportswear and uniforms to children’s wear and school uniforms. Crease resistant and easy to care for, the sturdy twill will handle repeated industrial laundering.

Doubletex says it is “committed to the ongoing research and development of new fabrics and finishes. Using only environmentally responsible technologies in their production.”

Century Place Introduces
Knit Protection Collections

Casual knit shirt sales continue to rise in the police, sheriff, fire department, emergency services and security personnel categories. Protection Collections by Century Place presents a new casual line targeted to these opportunities.
Knit shirts are worn by security firms as well as security personnel for individual companies. In addition, security has grown for public events such as sports and concerts where a knit shirt is accepted as uniform apparel. Many EMS personnel dress casually in solid knit shirts. Police, fire and sheriff department personnel casual wear is increasing as the demand for user-friendly daily station wear grows. Also, knits are worn at association meetings and when a less formal appearance in general is desired.

Century Place shirts offer Teflon treated fabric protection, sizing up to 6XL and made in the USA manufacturing. The name of each public safety sector, such as EMS, is knit into the collar and cuffs allowing the specific department or officer name to be embroidered on the chest.

“We are reaching out for new opportunities to serve customers as we celebrate our 25th year in business,” says Mike Carter, President.

Based in Salisbury, N.C., Century Place specializes in providing woven and knit shirts to textile services, uniform and career apparel companies.

Century Place manufactures its shirt production in several countries to ensure maximum flexibility and competitiveness in a global market. At the same time, Century Place is one of the last large-scale shirt suppliers that still has production capability in the United States.

“Century Place’s U.S. plant has more than met the challenge of international competition. The factory continues to crank out an average of 1,500 dozen shirts a week, including goods for the new Protection Collections line of custom shirts aimed at police, fire, sheriff’s departments, security firms and EMS personnel. These shirts are designed for activities where a business-casual look is appropriate,” says Carter.
