ASSOCIATION NEWS: NAUMD UPDATE

Richard J. Lerman Named
New Executive Director of NAUMD

Association president Michael Broome and the officers/directors of the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors (NAUMD) announced the appointment of Richard J. Lerman as the association’s new executive director.

Lerman officially joined the NAUMD staff as executive director on February 1, 2006. He is an association executive veteran, most recently serving as president of the Association Builders and Contractors, New Jersey Chapter. He has also served in senior level positions as executive director of the American Electronics Association (AEA), NY Council, serving the 364,000 workers at New York area technology corporations. Prior to joining AEA, Lerman served as executive director, member relations with the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), which serves over 1,100 licensor/licensee firms and individuals engaged in the marketing and manufacture of licensed properties. Before LIMA, Lerman spent over a decade as executive director of the Drug, Chemical & Allied Trades Association (DCAT), where he was responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans which resulted in the re-establishment of DCAT as a thriving business trade association offering focused programs and services to its diverse membership.

Lerman’s immediate responsibilities will include the development of a strategic plan for the NAUMD to expand its programs and services. According to Broome these plans will specifically address the future needs of the association’s members.

“The board of directors, executive committee and committee chairs are all looking forward to Richard’s leadership in helping us take the NAUMD to the next level of service for the benefit of all our members, says Broome “We are confident that we will be able to significantly increase the value proposition for the current and future members of the NAUMD through new programs designed to help our members grow their businesses. We will also seek to build a rapport with the education community to make students aware of the career and employment opportunities available for them within our industry. With Mr. Lerman’s experience, we are confident that working together we can achieve these goals and objectives.”

Lerman succeeds Bernard J. Lepper who has successfully led the NAUMD as Executive Director since 1980.

“I am most honored to have been chosen as the NAUMD’s next executive director and proud to build on the dynamic growth programs and services which Bernie Lepper has provided to the members of NAUMD,” says Lerman. I look forward to working with the officers, directors and Mr. Lepper in building new business opportunities for the NAUMD’s members and securing the value of membership for current and future members and all who serve the uniform industry.”

Lerman and Lepper will work together through the transition.

The NAUMD has been serving as the voice of America’s uniformed workers since 1933, and is a not-for-profit trade association representing the interests and needs of the entire uniform industry. NAUMD currently has over 450 members who manufacture and sell fabric, uniforms, career apparel and accessories to businesses worldwide.
