People want more value to their apparel products now,” says David Blalock of Blurlington Industries. “How do you create more value? Performance, of course, and technology has to play a role in that.”
There are many industry members who appreciate that there is about to be a dawn of a new era of technology and electronics to be included in garments and textiles.
In the same way that computers now drive cars — 25 years ago there were few computers in cars, now you can’t start a car without a computer — the uniform industry is embracing technology and using it for amazing advances. The addition of nano-technology, electronics and other technologies is pushing the envelope for the making and distribution of “smarter garments.” These new approaches will allow workers to be safer, potentially save lives or property, and provide greater comfort.
Made To Measure could not possibly cover all the advancements offered by the suppliers serving the uniform and career apparel industry. We present in this issue a sampling of how several uniform manufacturers, distributors and the military are using technology to improve uniform clothing, drive sales and enhance customer service.
