Best Dressed Police Department Competion Call for Entries

The 24th annual Best Dressed Police Department Competition is officially under way. The National Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors (NAUMD), the competition's sponsor, invites proud departments of all sizes and all types of uniforms throughout the country to participate in this exciting event.

They will be competing for the prestigious title of the best dressed department in the nation in one of the following categories: state, county, city with over 200 officers, city with less than 200 officers, and specialized agency. Top winners receive award plaques, extensive publicity and community peer recognition.

An independent panel of experts in the field will judge entries on the basis of image projection, immediate recognition, reflection of the authority and professionalism of the department, practicality, and policies requiring uniform standards and inspections.

The NAUMD invites and encourages any law enforcement agency in the United States to participate. To be considered for an award, a department must submit a minimum of two 8 X 10 color photographs (one of which must be a duty uniform) along with a completed entry blank no later than May 10, 2001. Close-up shots showing details are encouraged. Entries will be judged shortly thereafter and award presentations will be held through- out the summer.

For more information or if you would like to receive an entry blank, contact the NAUMD's Director of Public Relations, Melanie Kanegis-Mader, at 212-869-0670; Fax 212-575-2847; or email MelanieK@naumd.com. For additional information on the NAUMD, please visit their Web site at www.naumd.com

KTP Design Debuts Reactive-Dyed Printed Knit & Woven Shirts

Introduced recently by KTP's president, Patrick Walsh, these shirts can be custom-designed to include a company's logo or theme. They are printed with reactive dyes for a rich, bold look. In addition, these shirts can be crafted to meet any specs demanded by the buyer. "Our shirts are of the same high quality you would find in a better department store," Walsh states. "The reactive dye printing process is permanent; the colors will not bleed or wash out, even after multiple washings. In addition, the percent of shrinkage is extremely low."

Knit shirts are available in 100 percent combed cotton for a soft, luxurious hand. Both pique and jersey fabrications are available. Woven shirts are available in both 100 percent cotton as well as blended fabrications for easy care.

Walsh goes on to say, "There are plenty of polo shirts and denim shirts out there with an embroidered logo on the chest. We take this one giant step further--creating an entire design using the whole garment as the canvas. Our designs can be subtle as well as bold and complex. For example, a donut shop might have a shirt that includes donuts, bagels, cups of coffee, and the chain's logo all incorporated into the design. This is the perfect uniform item for any organization that wants to look good." Walsh states that KTP is already working on uniform programs for several operations, including major fast food chains, a nationwide chain of car dealers, and a large video store chain. "Our minimums are only 600 units per design, so this product is available for many organizations, not just the very large."

KTP Design Company's design team will create a full-color custom artwork presentation free of charge. KTP is located at 386 Park Avenue South, Suite 211, New York, NY 10016. You can contact them at (888)245-1979, or visit their web site at www.customknitshirt.com

King Louie International New for 2001

The new catalog from King Louie International features shirts, outerwear, ladies' wear, activewear and headwear in an easy-to-use format with their new Product Locator Guide. Classics and favorites as well as fashion forward styles, functional product collections, and 38 new styles are included. Announcing their new exclusive ladies' branded apparel label, TimeOut for Her, King Louie has doubled their women's product line with garments styled and fit just for women, many with men's companion sportshirts.

Also, King Louie International is pleased to announce several new Web site features including a password protected area that allows authorized distributors to purchase samples online, download catalog images, create custom sell sheets, view closeout apparel opportunities and participate in apparel program forecasting.

In what is believed to be the first of its kind, a promotional products distributor can provide feedback to a supplier regarding the catalog placement of their product online in an anonymous fashion. This allows King Louie to plan inventories accordingly, yet protects the distributor's image as the supplier.

The Grandview, Mo.-based organization has also greatly enhanced the capabilities of their widely acclaimed online sell sheet feature. Now distributors can add word processing special effects to their e-mailable or printed custom sell sheets. The trademarked King Louie "no downloads needed" custom sell sheet feature has become an industry favorite. It has proven easy to use and effective in closing deals.

Distributors in search of price sensitive deals can visit a password protected off-price store for discontinued or overstocked apparel items.

Slated for introduction in the second quarter of 2001 are several new features which will include online order tracking, inventory verification and logo library.

To order a catalog or for more information, call for your introduction to King Louie's fine line of wearables. King Louie International, 13500 15th Street, Grandview, MO 64030-3000; Tel: 800-521-5212; Fax: 816-765-3228. www.kinglouie.com
